Box Score Erie, PA – The D'Youville women's soccer team fell to the host Penn State-Behrend Lions on Wednesday evening by the final score of 3-0.
Penn State applied early pressure to the Spartan defense, recording 3 shots in the first 6 minutes. D'Youville would take their first shot of the game in the 33rd minute off the foot of Rachel Hermanski (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale). In the next minute, the Lions would take the lead over the Spartans with a shot that found the right-side netting to give them a 1-0 lead.
Behrend would continue their constant pressure, outshooting D'Youville 5-0 in the final 11 minutes and take their 1-0 into halftime.
The Spartans were unable to get any offense going in the beginning portion of the second half. Nicole LaVere (Clarence, NY/Williamsville East) recorded the team's first shot of the half in the 67th minute, but it was blocked. After the Spartans went down a player in the 59th minute, Penn State took it to the D'Youville defense. The Lions scored in the 70th minute and 77th minute to extend their lead to 3-0 and would win the game by that score.
Hermanski, Nicole LaVere and Lauren Walsh (Kenmore, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) each had a shot in the game, accounting for the only 3 shots of the game for the Spartans. Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) made 8 saves in the game in her 13th start of the season.
The women will return home for their next game against Franciscan on Saturday, October 24th at 3:15pm.
