Reed Scores 30, Spartans Fall to Bobcats

Box Score

Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville Men's Basketball Team dropped their second conference game of the season Saturday evening by the score of 87-77 to the Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats in a hard fought effort.

After starting the game down 3-0, D'Youville never trailed again in the first half of play. With 11:21 to play, the Bobcats tied up the game at 20 on a three point shot. From that point on, D'Youville went on a 16-6 run, taking their largest lead of the game with 6:35 remaining with the score 36-26 after a Marcus Clarke (Olean, NY/Archbishop Walsh Academy) layup. Greensburg fought back to bring the game to 42-39 D'Youville at half.

Pitt.-Greensburg came out firing, making 5-8 of their shot attempts in the first 5 minutes of the second half. As the game continued, the Bobcats continued their offensive output, increasing their lead to 62-50 with 13:48 left. With their foot on the gas pedal, it was too much for D'Youville to overcome as Pitt.-Greensburg took the game by the final of 87-77.

"We have to learn how to close out games, make the little plays that lead to the big ones," said fourth year Head Coach Earl Schunk. He added "we are committed to making that happen, I'm confident the group I have here will get this done."

Center Julian Reed (Cheektowaga, NY/Union-Endicott) hit his season high in points by scoring 30 to lead all scorers. Adding 13 rebounds, Reed recorded another double-double on the young season. With 3 blocks, Reed increased his team lead for the season.

Last season's leading scorer, Marcus Clarke, scored 15 points to go with his 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Junior Jon Gemerek (Cheektowaga, NY/Depew) was a point and rebound away from his own double-double, recording 9 points and 9 rebounds. Gemerek played a hard game once again, diving for lose balls and playing tenacious defense. Fellow starter Matt Insley (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) had a solid game with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

Off the bench, freshman Adam Ibrahim (New Port Richey, FL/Ridgewood) played solid minutes and scored 5 points with 2 rebounds and an assist. Sophomore Anthony Malone (Erie, PA/ Mercyhurst Prep) made key buckets and had 5 points off the bench as well.

Heading into the rest of their conference schedule, Coach Schunk knows the league is for the taking. "The league is pretty much wide open this season. Anybody can beat anybody."

D'Youville's next chance for their first league win will be Saturday, December 13th at 3:00PM in the College Center Gym against La Roche.
