Spokane, WA - The D'Youville Men's Basketball Team lost their opening game of the 2014-2015 season to the 17th ranked Whitworth University by the score of 103-49.

The first half saw D'Youville be outscored by Whitworth 54-18. In the second half, the Spartans improved their offensive and defensive numbers, but still were outscored 49-31.

As he did in the 2013-2014 season, junior guard Marcus Clarke (Olean, NY/Archbishop Walsh Academy) led the team in scoring. Clarke had 20 points to go along with 2 steals and 2 rebounds. Junior Nate Sweetman (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added 8 points and 4 rebounds.

As a team, the Spartans shot 14-52 with 26  total rebounds and 3 blocks. All 3 blocks were recorded by senior captain Julian Reed (Cheektowaga, NY/Union-Endicott). Reed was tied for the national lead in blocks per game last season.

Fourth year Head Coach Earl Schunk knew that this road trip would be a tough test. "We came out here to get tested by two of the best teams in the country. We will only get better from this."

The D'Youville Men's Basketball Team will play the 33rd ranked team in the nation, Whitman College on Sunday, November 16th at 4:00pm.
