Box Score Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville Women's Soccer Team continued their winning ways and undefeated conference play as they defeated Hilbert College 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore Emily Carias (Eden, NY/Eden) started off the scoring for the Spartans off of a feed from junior Rebecca Alvira (Buffalo, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) in her first game back from injury. Alvira played a ball through the Hawks defense to Carias and did as she has done several times this season and beat the goalie for the first goal of the game.
Five minutes into the second half, senior captain Mallory Hojnacki (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) scored her second goal in as many games as she stepped to the penalty dot and scored to increase the Spartan's lead to 2-0. Hojnacki's goal was her second penalty kick goal of the season, and her second goal overall.
The stout Spartan defense once again shut down their opponent. D'Youville's defensive trio of Hojnacki, junior Amanda Drake (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) and freshman Jenna Tomizzi (Buffalo, NY/Sacred Heart) once again proved to be too much for the Hilbert attack. Freshman goalie Morgan Price (Spencer, NY/Spencer-Van Etten) saved all 5 of the shots she faced, recording yet another shutout.
Junior Nicole LaVere (Clarence, NY/Williamsville East) had 2 shots on goal, tied for the team lead with Carias. As a team, the Spartans had 10 shots on goal, scoring on 2 of them. Several players contributed to the offense, providing pressure and making decisive passes throughout the game.
D'Youville is now undefeated in league play with a record of 3-0. In their 3 league games this season, the Spartans have outscored their opponents 6-1.
The next game for the D'Youville Women's Soccer Team is Saturday, October 11th against Penn St-Altoona, beginning at 2pm. The game is at home at the D'Youville Athletic Complex. Following the game, the D'Youville Men's Soccer Team plays at 4pm, also against Penn St-Altoona.
