Reed Posts First Career Triple-Double

Buffalo, NY- Men's basketball played Hilbert close through the first-half and for a portion of the second but the visiting Hawks took over and defeated the Spartans 84-64.

The lead story in tonight's men's basketball game versus Hilbert College was Spartan center Julian Reed (Cheektowaga, NY/Union-Endicott) became just the second men's basketball player at D'Youville to record a triple-double.  

Reed's stat line tonight was 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 blocked shots. It was a career-high single-game point and blocked shot total for the third-year player.

Reed entered the night second nationally among NCAA Division III players with 40 blocked shots, trailing national leader Donald Lawes of Farmingdale State by 16. Lawes recorded five blocks tonight against Mount St. Vincent and leads Reed 61-50.

Reed nearly had the triple-double in the first half and led all players with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 blocked shots in the first 20 minutes. D'Youville trailed at the half 34-33.

D'Youville would take a 45-44 lead at the 15:23 mark of the second half ad that would be their final advantage of the game. Hilbert would answer with a 10-2 run to take the lead for good. D'Youville would get to within five at 56-51 and then go without a field-goal over the next 5:41 of play. Hilbert would put the game out of reach with a 11-1 over that span.

Marcus Clarke (Olean, NY/Archbishop Walsh) would chip in 11 points. AMCC assist leader Jake Maryniewski (Depew, NY/Depew) had six more helpers tonight and has totaled 26 over his last three games.

D'Youville will host Pitt-Greensburg in the College Center Gym this Saturday (Jan. 11) at 1:00 p.m. and finish their home stand Sunday (Jan. 12) versus Mount Aloysius at 1:00 p.m.
