Box Score Altoona, PA-Marcus Clarke(Olean, NY/Olean) scored a team-high 24 points and Julian Reed(Cheektowaga, NY/Union-Endicott)added 19 points, eight rebounds, and six blocked shots in the Spartans' 110-92 loss at Penn State Altoona.
It was a game that was there for the taking for the Spartans.
After trailing early, D'Youville tied the game five times before pulling ahead for the first time eight and a half minutes into the contest on a pair of Marcus Clarke free throws. The Spartans would play the next 7:48 with the lead and D'Youville would widen the margin between the teams to as high as nine.
Altoona closed out the first-half with a 6-0 run in final 1:03 to talk a 53-47 lead into halftime.
Reed opened the second-half with a field goal and a pair of Nate Sweetman(Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) buckets tied the game at 53 apiece. The next seven and a half minutes the teams would be tied four times and exchange the lead four times.
The last tie of the game was at 67-67 with 12:34 left to play and the teams would be deadlocked for the next three minutes. The host Lions would go on an 11-2 run after the stalemate and not trail the rest of the contest.
Also scoring in double-figures for the Spartans was Jon Gemerek(Depew, NY/Depew) with 16 points. Jake Maryniewski(Depew, NY/Depew) was in range of a triple-double with nine points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. The 92 points scored by the Spartans today was a season-high.
