Box Score Buffalo, NY-Visiting Penn State Altoona staved off a D'Youville second-half comeback to beat the Spartans 85-78 in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game played in the College Center Gym.
D'Youville (2-12, 1-6 AMCC) received a double-double from Oliver Prince (Toronto, ONT/Jean Varnier) of 24 points and 10 rebounds. Jon Gemerek (Cheektowaga, NY/Depew) was next with 18 points and a game-high four steals. Erik Prophet (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) chipped in 12 points.
The second-half of this game was played end to end with both teams going up and down the floor trading baskets. D'Youville shot 59.4% percent (19-32) in the second-half and Altoona was slightly better at 60% (18-30). Prince and Gemerek combined for 33 of the Spartan's 49 second-half points.
D'Youville trailed by 15 early in the second-half, their largest deficit of the game. The Spartans went on a 12-0 run and chipped the lead down to one possession game at 44-41. Altoona stretched the lead out to 9 only to see the Spartans match the run and pull ahead at 55-54 with 12:15 left. From there the teams traded baskets for two minutes and the Spartans took their last lead of the game at the 10:46 mark. D'Youville would stay within two possessions of the lead for almost seven minutes but couldn't pull past the visitors.
