RINDGE, N.H. — D'Youville fell 4-1 to Franklin Pierce on Sunday. The Saints took a 1-0 lead into halftime before the Ravens scored four unanswered goals, including three in the second half.
Rowynn Pickering scored D'Youville's lone goal, finishing with four shots and two on goal. Sofia Toyos added an assist and put her lone shot on target, while Jimena Loustalot led the Saints with five shots. Sarah Reifsnyder made seven saves in goal.
D'Youville finished with 15 shots, including six on goal, and earned six penalty corners. Franklin Pierce recorded 24 shots, 11 on goal and four penalty corners. The Saints were also called for 44 fouls compared with 21 for the Ravens.
D'Youville controlled much of the early action, generating five shots and two penalty corners in the opening quarter. Loustalot accounted for three of the Saints' attempts, while Toyos and Madisyn Grawl each put a shot on goal that was saved by Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Zoe Noorlag. The Ravens recorded two shots in the opening 15 minutes, and the game remained scoreless.
Pickering broke through at 16:54 of the second quarter, scoring off an assist from Toyos to give the Saints a 1-0 advantage. D'Youville continued to apply pressure throughout the quarter, earning four penalty corners and creating multiple scoring opportunities. The Saints carried the one-goal lead into halftime.
Franklin Pierce answered in the third quarter, tying the game at 1-1 when Abigail Tarka scored at 39:05. Cecelia Keller then put the Ravens ahead 2-1 at 44:37. D'Youville continued to create opportunities between the two goals, earning a penalty corner and producing three shots in a 55-second stretch. Caroline Pitarra's attempt was saved by Noorlag, while Hailey Clark added two shots.
The Ravens extended their lead early in the fourth quarter, with Puck Wanders scoring at 49:24 before Brynnlea Chaisson made it 4-1 at 50:53. Pickering had a chance to cut into the deficit at 48:00, but her shot was saved by Noorlag. Pickering and Grawl added late attempts, while Reifsnyder made five saves in the final quarter.
D'Youville falls to 2-3 overall, while Franklin Pierce improves to 2-5.
Saints Field Hockey will look to bounce back against Southern New Hampshire at 4pm tomorrow in Manchester, N.H.
