Saints Suffer First Loss of the Season to IUP on the Road

INDIANA, Pa. — D'Youville lost to Indiana (Pa.) 8-0 on Saturday on in the first goad game of the season for the Saints. D'Youville was limited to four shots, all on goal, while the Saints goalkeepers totaled 19 saves against 32 shots.
D'Youville spent the first quarter defending sustained Indiana (Pa.) pressure, with Sarah Reifsnyder (Pylesville, Md. / North Harford) making four saves as the hosts produced nine shots and three penalty corners. Reifsnyder stopped the Hawks off an early penalty-corner sequence at 1:46 and denied IUP again at 3:43, but the Hawks broke through on a goal at 6:56 and added another at 7:42. D'Youville did not record a shot or penalty corner in the quarter, while Reifsnyder added two saves late in the quarter. IUP earned two corners in the final 1:32, and D'Youville ended the first quarter trailing 2-0.
In the second quarter, D'Youville absorbed sustained pressure, with Reifsnyder making six saves while Indiana (Pa.) added a penalty stroke goal at 19:40 to move the score to 3-0. Earlier, D'Youville generated the first opportunity of the quarter on Madisyn Grawl's (Burlington, N.J. / Burlington) penalty corner at 16:41, followed by Chloe Burkhard's (Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal) shot that was saved 12 seconds later. After IUP's goal, Reifsnyder stopped two more shots and D'Youville put another shot on goal through Jimena Loustalot (Tandil, Argentina / San Jose) at 26:13. Indiana (Pa.) closed the quarter with three shots on goal and three penalty corners in the final 2:33, but Reifsnyder saved each shot as D'Youville reached halftime with the score at 3-0.
D'Youville faced an early setback in the third quarter when the Hawks scored at 31:22 to make it 4-0. Hallie Villavechia (Houston, TX / Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart) answered with a save at 33:35 as IUP continued to pressure through penalty corners. The Hawks later scored at 38:20 to push the score to 5-0, but Villavechia added another save at 40:00. D'Youville also got a defensive save from the team on a shot at 42:33 after another Indiana (Pa.) corner, and the quarter ended with D'Youville trailing 5-0.
Three Indiana (Pa.) goals in the first 5:01 of the fourth quarter moved the score to 8-0 after strikes at 45:49, 48:13 and 50:01. Villavechia made a save 29 seconds into the quarter and continued to absorb pressure with additional stops before D'Youville created its best offensive stretch. Sofia Toyos (Doral, FL / Doral Academy Preparatory) put back-to-back shots on goal at 54:21 and 54:30, both saved by the Hawks goalkeeper, and Chloe Burkhard followed with a penalty corner at 54:36. Villavechia added saves on two shots, stopped a penalty stroke at 58:07 and turned away another attempt in the final minute as D'Youville was held scoreless in an 8-0 final.
Reifsnyder recorded 10 saves over 30 minutes in goal. Villavechia added nine saves in 30 minutes, including seven in the fourth quarter. Toyos finished with a team-high two shots, both on goal.
