DYU Comes Up Short In Competitive Doubleheader

UNIONDALE, N.Y. — D'Youville dropped two tightly contested games to Molloy University on Saturday at Mitchel Field, falling 8-7 in 10 innings and 4-3 as the Lions used a pair of walk-offs to extend their winning streak to 19 games.

The Saints jumped out to an early lead in the opener, scoring three runs in both the second and third innings. Colby Wilson and Garett Wilson singled to begin the second before Jacob Cooper drove in both runners with a two-RBI single, and Anthony Consiglio later scored on a throwing error. In the third, Billy Morris and Colby Wilson singled before Garett Wilson added an RBI single and Jake Hollins doubled down the right field line to drive in another run.

Molloy answered with a six-run third inning to take the lead, but D'Youville tied the game in the eighth when Hollins was hit by a pitch and Consiglio walked before Jake Ferris delivered a pinch-hit RBI single to center.

Mihir Manerikar started for the Saints, while Greg Orcutt and Evan Froelich combined to hold Molloy to one run on four hits over the final 6 1/3 innings. Colby Wilson finished with three hits and two runs, while Garett Wilson added two hits and two runs and Cooper drove in two.

The Saints were able to force extra-innings, but Molloy secured the 8-7 win with a walk-off double in the 10th.

In the second game, D'Youville again took an early lead with a three-run third inning. Michael Huff singled and Jacob Cooper was hit by a pitch before Billy Morris delivered a two-RBI single to center. Colby Wilson followed with an RBI single that brought home Blaise Kolbert.

Molloy was able to tie the game in the fourth and pushed across the go-ahead run with a pair of singles in the seventh, walking-off the Saints again for the 4-3 win.

Kolbert recorded a triple and a walk, while Cooper Cefaratti added two hits. Jakob Denall struck out seven over five innings for the Saints, allowing three runs on six hits, before Ryan McCarthy worked 1 2/3 innings in relief.

D'Youville concludes the four-game series against Molloy University on April 19 at Mitchel Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12 P.M.
