UNIONDALE, N.Y. — D'Youville (14-26, 9-13 ECC) jumped out to a 6-1 lead through four innings Sunday but could not hold off Molloy, falling 21-6 at Mitchel Field in an ECC matchup.
The Saints held an advantage for the majority of the ballgame before the Lions erupted for 15 unanswered runs over the final three innings.
D'Youville set the tone immediately. Jake Ferris opened the first inning with a double to right center and scored on a Billy Morris single. Cooper Cefaratti followed with an RBI single to give D'Youville a 2-0 lead after one. The Saints extended their advantage in the third when Morris reached on a Molloy throwing error and crossed the plate on a Blaise Kolbert single, pushing the lead to 3-1.
D'Youville's best inning came in the fourth. Jacob Cooper launched a solo home run, Ferris and Morris knocked back-to-back doubles, and Colby Wilson added an RBI single, giving the Saints a 6-1 lead through four innings.
Molloy responded in the late-stages. The Lions plated seven runs in the sixth inning to seize the lead, added eight more in the seventh, and tacked on three in the eighth to pull away for the 21-6 final. The victory extended Molloy's win streak to 20.
The Saints are back at Sal Maglie Stadium next weekend for a four-game series with Queens College beginning on Friday, April 24th at 3 P.M.
