UNIONDALE, N.Y. — D'Youville University baseball (14-23, 9-10 ECC) fell to Molloy with a final score of 6–4 on Friday at Mitchel Field.
Molloy jumped to an early lead in the first inning with a two-run homer by Sean Welsh, bringing in Mike Sweeney, who had reached third on a throwing error. Score: 2–0 Molloy after one inning.
D'Youville responded in the second inning with a solo home run to center field from
Garett Wilson.
Cooper Cefaratti singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Derek Onevelo, followed by
Jake Hollins scoring on and RBI single from
Kevin Del Vecchio. The Saints took the lead, 3–2, after two innings.
Molloy tied the game in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Jack Vallario. Score: 3–3 through four innings.
In the sixth inning, D'Youville regained the lead when
Billy Morris reached on an error and scored on a single by
Colby Wilson. Molloy tied it again with an RBI single from Jack Vallario. Score: 4–4 after six innings.
Molloy pulled ahead in the seventh inning, scoring on a wild pitch. Score: 5–4 Molloy after seven innings.
Molloy extended its lead in the eighth inning with a run-scoring sequence that included a bunt single by Brian Sanchez. Score: 6–4 Molloy through eight innings.
D'Youville was unable to score in the ninth inning, resulting in a final score of 6–4 in favor of Molloy.
Morris recorded eight strikeouts over six innings while contributing offensively with a double and a run scored. Wilson made an impact with a home run, two walks, and one RBI. Cefaratti added a stolen base and scored a run, showcasing his ability on the bases. Hollins also stole a base and collected a hit, scoring one run during the game.
Eric Osterstrom pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs while issuing three walks.
Sean Glinski took the mound for 2/3 inning, striking out one batter and throwing 15 pitches, with 11 counted as strikes, showcasing his ability to find the strike zone efficiently.
The Saints will be back at it tomorrow for a doubleheader against the Lions starting at 12 p.m.
