Men's Lacrosse Grinds Out Win at Post

WATERBURY, Conn. — D'Youville men's lacrosse (8-4) edged Post University with a 6–5 victory on Saturday at LaMoy Field. 

The Saints opened the game with strong control, as Darryl Cooper won the initial faceoff leading to a ground ball pickup by Logan Schwartz. Despite several shot attempts, including a close one by Graham Sholett that hit the post, DYU was unable to find the net early on.

Post took the lead at 2:07 with a goal. However, D'Youville responded in the final minute when Trevor Miller scored, assisted by Luciano Gonzalez, tying the game at 1–1. The quarter ended with both teams level on the scoreboard.

D'Youville capitalized on its offensive opportunities in the second quarter, beginning with Brady Ruffalo scoring at 9:05, assisted by Jake Bush. Carsyn Kent extended the lead with a man-up goal at 1:53, assisted by Ruffalo, taking advantage of a penalty on the Eagles. Despite a late goal by Post at :49, D'Youville maintained control as the quarter ended with a 3–2 lead.

D'Youville managed to find the back of the net late in the third quarter when Sholett scored at the 2:09 mark, bringing the score to a tie. However, the Eagles capitalized on a man-up situation shortly after, scoring at 1:47. Despite a strong defensive effort by D'Youville, including multiple saves by William Nichols, the quarter concluded with the score tied at 4–4. The quarter ended with this draw, marking a tense, evenly matched contest for both teams.

D'Youville made a significant impact in the fourth quarter, capitalizing on a man-up opportunity when Ruffalo scored at 9:29, assisted by Jack Devlin. The team's efforts continued as Kent found the back of the net with just 28 seconds remaining, assisted by Noah Suchyna, leveling the score at 5–5. Despite the Eagles' attempts to regain the lead, D'Youville's defense, led by goalkeeper Nichols with multiple saves, held firm. The game concluded with a tied score of 6–6, marking the end of regulation play.

Kent tallied two goals, including the game-winner, converting five out of nine shots on goal. Ruffalo also found the net twice and added an assist while taking 12 shots, five of which were on target. Nichols made an impact in goal, recording 15 saves and allowing only five goals to secure the win. Sholett contributed with a goal, successfully converting one of his six shot attempts.

Looking ahead, D'Youville will welcome Roberts Wesleyan University to Dobson Field in Buffalo, New York, on Saturday, April 18. The game will begin at 2 p.m.
