NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — D'Youville used a dramatic late comeback in game one and an explosive start in game two to sweep a Saturday doubleheader from the College of Staten Island at Sal Maglie Stadium, winning 10-9 and 10-1.
In the first game, the Saints rallied for eight runs over the final two innings to erase a five-run deficit, walking it off with a three-RBI double from Colby Wilson to secure the 10-9 victory.
D'Youville trailed 7-2 after seven innings before mounting their comeback in the eighth. Billy Morris delivered a two-run single to score Derek Onevelo and Jake Ferris, trimming the deficit. Colby Wilson followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home Blaise Kolbert, and Garett Wilson doubled to score Morris and make it a one-run game.
Staten Island added two runs in the top of the ninth to extend its lead to 9-6, but the Saints responded with a four-run rally in the bottom half. Kevin Del Vecchio scored on a wild pitch before Colby Wilson delivered the decisive blow with a bases clearing double to complete the comeback.
Wilson finished with four RBIs including the decisive double, while Morris recorded two hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Ferris collected three hits and scored twice, and Kolbert added two hits while crossing the plate three times.
Mihir Manerikar started for the Saints, striking out a career-high seven batters across 4.2 innings while allowing three earned runs. Matt McGeorge added 1.1 innings of relief with three strikeouts before Greg Orcutt earned the win, pitching the final three innings.
The Saints carried the momentum into game two, erupting for seven runs in the first inning on their way to a 10-1 victory.
Jake Ferris sparked the rally with a leadoff single before Kolbert drove him in with an RBI double. Colby Wilson followed with an RBI single, and the Saints continued to pile on. Kevin Del Vecchio was hit by a pitch to force in a run, Jake Hollins cleared the bases with a three-run triple, and Michael Huff capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to give D'Youville a 7-0 lead.
Wilson added to the advantage with a solo home run in the fifth inning, his ninth homer on the year. In the sixth, Ferris delivered an RBI single and Huff added another run on a fielder's choice to push the lead to 10-1.
Wilson finished with two hits, including the home run, and two runs scored, while Hollins drove in three with his bases-clearing triple. Kolbert added two RBIs and Ferris recorded two hits and two runs scored.
Jakob Denall earned the win with a strong outing on the mound, tossing six innings while allowing just three hits and no earned runs. He struck out five and walked three to improve to 3-2 on the season. Eric Osterstrom worked one inning in relief to close out the victory.
D'Youville will look to sweep the four-game series with the Dolphins at Sal Maglie Stadium tomorrow, April 12th at 10 a.m.
