NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — D'Youville defeated the College of Staten Island 1-0 on Friday afternoon at Sal Maglie Stadium behind a dominant complete-game shutout on the mound from Billy Morris.
Morris was exceptional all day, silencing the Dolphins offense and striking out 12 batters across nine innings. The right-hander allowed just three hits and one walk while throwing 124 pitches, 82 for strikes, to earn his fourth win of the season and improve to 4-2. Morris kept the Staten Island lineup off balance all afternoon, recording strikeouts in seven different innings and shutting down the Dolphins whenever they threatened.
The Saints offense broke through in the fifth inning with the game's only run. Jacob Cooper worked a leadoff walk and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Jake Hollins then delivered the decisive swing, driving an RBI double to right field to plate Cooper and give D'Youville a 1-0 lead.
Hollins finished the afternoon with two hits, including the run-scoring double. Cooper Cefaratti collected two hits, drew a walk, and added a stolen base as he consistently put pressure on the Dolphins defense.
D'Youville scattered six hits in the contest but relied on Morris' dominant outing to secure the victory. Staten Island threatened at times with baserunners, but Morris worked out of trouble each time to preserve the shutout.
The four-game weekend series against the College of Staten Island continues with a doubleheader on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. at Sal Maglie Stadium.
