Men's Lacrosse Begins Roadtrip with Loss to Saint Michael's

COLCHESTER, Vt. — D'Youville men's lacrosse fell to St. Michael's College 17-5 on Sunday at Duffy Field. 

The match between D'Youville and St. Michael's began with Casey Berns in goal for D'Youville, who made several key saves early on. Despite an initial setback when SMC scored at 10:36, the Saints responded with a goal by Stefano Evan at 8:32, leveling the score at 1-1. However, the Purple Knights quickly regained momentum, scoring shortly after to reclaim the lead.

As the quarter progressed, SMC extended its advantage with a pair of goals, ending the quarter with a 4-1 lead over D'Youville. Despite numerous shots, DYU was unable to further impact the scoreboard in the first quarter.

D'Youville found momentum in the second quarter with Graham Sholett scoring at 7:50, narrowing the gap. Later, Evan capitalized on a man-up opportunity, assisted by Carsyn Kent, at 4:45, further reducing the Purple Knights' lead. Despite these efforts, SMC responded with multiple goals in the final seconds, bringing the score to 9-3 at the end of the half.

In the third quarter, D'Youville's Evan scored at 10:21, briefly closing the gap. Despite this effort, the Purple Knights responded quickly with three consecutive goals, capitalizing on faceoff wins and possession control. D'Youville faced challenges in clearing attempts, which hindered its ability to maintain offensive momentum. The quarter concluded with SMC leading 12-4, sealing the game's outcome with a decisive victory for the home team.

D'Youville's Obrigh Tallchief provided a spark in the fourth quarter with a goal at 12:04, following his own ground ball pickup, briefly narrowing the gap against the Purple Knights. Despite this effort, SMC regained momentum with a series of goals, including a late score at :45 and another by at :22. The quarter concluded with SMC extending its lead, and the game ended with a final score of 17-5 in favor of the Purple Knights.

Evan led the scoring for D'Youville with three goals on five shots, including a power-play goal and two unassisted goals. Tallchief and Sholett each added a goal, both finding the net with their only two shots on goal. Berns made 12 saves in goal, facing a total of 42 shots.

In their next game, D'Youville will face American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts. The match is set for Tuesday, March 10 at 4 p.m.
