Saints Rebound with Dominating Win at AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — D'Youville men's lacrosse (6-2) secured a decisive 17-9 victory over American International College at Abdow Field on Tuesday. 

The Saints began the first quarter with strong offensive efforts, taking an early lead at 13:55 when Obrigh Tallchief scored the first goal, assisted by Raymond Cortes. DYU capitalized on their possession advantage, extending the lead to 2-0 with a goal from Graham Sholett at 9:50. Despite the Yellow Jackets' response with a goal, D'Youville maintained pressure and increased its lead to 3-1 with a man-up goal by Carsyn Kent at 2:11. The quarter concluded with AIC narrowing the gap to 3-2 following a man-up goal, but the Saints retained a one-goal advantage going into the next quarter.

DYU capitalized on the Yellow Jackets' early turnover, with Kent scoring just 55 seconds into the quarter. Following a defensive stop by Christian Cliff, Brody Strong netted a goal assisted by Sholett at 12:28, extending the lead. Sholett then added to the score with a goal at the 11-minute mark, assisted by Cortes. Despite a goal from AIC, D'Youville maintained momentum with Luciano Gonzalez scoring at 2:31 with an assist from Stefano Evan. The quarter concluded with D'Youville leading 7-3.

The Saints opened the third quarter with a strong offensive push, as Sholett scored a goal assisted by Tallchief at 14:03. Despite AIC's attempts to counter, DYU maintained its momentum with Kent scoring at 6:56, assisted by Noah Suchyna

Sholett added another goal with 3:36 left, assisted by Evan, solidifying D'Youville's lead. AIC managed to find the net twice more, but D'Youville's earlier scoring ensured a 10-7 lead at the end of the quarter.

D'Youville opened the fourth quarter with a decisive goal by Tallchief at 14:43, quickly followed by Jake Bush scoring a man-down goal at 11:07. Evan extended the lead with a goal assisted by Sholett at the eight-minute mark. D'Youville maintained its momentum with Suchyna scoring unassisted at 7:07. Despite a goal from AIC, D'Youville responded as Bush added another man-down goal at 2:42, and Jack Devlin followed with a man-down goal at 1:57, assisted by Tallchief.

Late in the quarter, D'Youville continued to press with Tallchief scoring again with just seven seconds remaining, assisted by Evan. The fourth quarter concluded with a strong performance from D'Youville, securing a 17-9 victory over AIC.

Sholett led the team's offense with four goals and added two assists, including the game-winning goal. Kent contributed significantly with three goals on five shots. Tallchief made an impact by recording three goals and two assists. In goal, Casey Berns stood strong, recording 14 saves against 45 shots faced.

In their next game, D'Youville will face the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday, March 14 at 1 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
