FLEMINGTON, N.J. — D'Youville baseball split their doubleheader on Friday with Felician University, earning a 12-6 victory in the opener before falling 5-4 in a tightly contested second game.
The Saints showcased timely hitting and power at the plate to secure the opener, launching three home runs and collecting five doubles in a 12-run offensive effort.
Reigning ECC Player of the Week Colby Wilson put D'Youville on the board with a solo home run in the second inning. The Saints added three more in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run single from Kevin Del Vecchio. D'Youville continued to build their lead with a run in the fifth and four more in the seventh thanks to RBI doubles from Jacob Cooper and Billy Morris. Del Vecchio knocked his second home run of the season in the eighth, and Garett Wilson capped the scoring with a solo shot in the ninth.
Morris earned the win on the mound, striking out nine across seven innings. At the plate, Morris collected three hits including two doubles and three RBIs. Del Vecchio also finished with three hits and three RBIs, while Garett Wilson and Colby Wilson each homered.
In game two, Felician jumped out to an early lead and held off a late Saints rally to secure the split.
Trailing 3-0, D'Youville got the bats started in the fourth inning when Morris drove in Jacob Cooper with a single. Colby Wilson followed it up with his second homer of the day and fifth on the new season, a towering two-run shot to even the score. Felician responded with a run in the inning and added another in the sixth to take a 5-3 lead.
The Saints cut the margin to one in the seventh and final inning. Cooper reached base and later scored on an RBI single from Colby Wilson, but D'Youville was unable to push across the tying run.
Wilson led the Saints offensively in the second game with three hits, a home run, and three RBIs. Cooper added a double and scored twice, while Morris recorded two hits and an RBI.
Up next for D'Youville, the road trip continues in East Stroudsburg, PA as they'll face the Warriors four times over the weekend.
