Saints Return Home with Win at St. Thomas Aquinas

SPARKILL, N.Y. — D'Youville men's lacrosse (7-2, 2-0) secured a commanding 19–13 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday at Spartan Field. 

The game opened with the Spartans taking an early lead at 14:18. However, D'Youville quickly responded, showing strong offensive play. Obrigh Tallchief scored at 8:08, followed by a man-up goal from Noah Suchyna at 7:06, which shifted momentum in D'Youville's favor.

D'Youville continued its offensive push as Brady Ruffalo, assisted by Hayden Goldthorp, added another goal at 4:38. Raymond Cortes and Graham Sholett extended the lead with goals at 4:07 and 2:10, respectively, making the score 5–1. Despite a late surge from STAC, D'Youville ended the first quarter ahead 5–4.

Noah Suchyna initiated the scoring for D'Youville in the second quarter with a goal at 14:17, assisted by Jack Devlin. Cortes extended D'Youville's lead with a solo effort at 7:55. Despite the Spartans responding with two goals, D'Youville maintained its composure. Suchyna then capitalized on a man-up opportunity, netting another goal with 35 seconds left, assisted by Luciano Gonzalez. The quarter concluded with both teams scoring three goals, bringing the score to 8–7 in favor of D'Youville.

D'Youville seized control early in the third quarter with a rapid offensive burst, starting with Ruffalo's man-up goal at 14:43, assisted by Gonzalez. Ruffalo continued to shine by scoring again just 17 seconds later, with Raymond Cortes providing the assist. D'Youville extended its lead with Gonzalez finding the net at 13:36, leveraging another extra-man opportunity.

D'Youville's momentum persisted as Ruffalo netted his third goal of the quarter at 12:16, followed by Tallchief scoring at 11:17. The team capitalized on the Spartans' penalties and turnovers to maintain their advantage. Despite a pushback from STAC with three late goals, D'Youville held firm to end the quarter with a 14–11 lead.

D'Youville surged forward in the fourth quarter, overturning an early goal by the Spartans with a series of successful plays. Gonzalez initiated the comeback with a goal at 11:22, followed by Tallchief's goal at 8:13, assisted by Gonzalez, which set the tone for D'Youville's momentum. Further goals from Gonzalez, Tallchief, and Brady Ruffalo extended the lead, with contributions from Devlin, Carsyn Kent, and Cortes in assists.

Despite the Spartans' attempts to counter, including a goal at 1:14, D'Youville maintained its advantage. The quarter concluded with a 5–2 scoring run in favor of D'Youville, securing a final victory with a score of 19–13. The game ended with D'Youville sealing its win against the home team.

Tallchief led the team with five goals on 15 shots, including the game-winning goal. Ruffalo added to the scoring effort with five goals, converting six of his seven shots on goal. Suchyna contributed three goals, registering seven shots on target from 10 attempts. Gonzalez was pivotal with three goals and four assists, effectively managing both scoring and playmaking duties.

The next challenge for D'Youville comes on Saturday, March 28, when it hosts Frostburg State University at Dobson Field in Buffalo, New York. The game is set for noon.
