Saints Drop Senior Day Contest to RV Frostburg State

BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville men's lacrosse (7-3, 2-1) fell to RV Frostburg State University with a final score of 14-6 at Dobson Field on Saturday.

The first quarter opened with both teams setting their defenses, as William Nichols stood in goal for the Saints. The team initially struggled to gain momentum, allowing FSU to take an early lead. Despite a solid defensive effort from goalie Casey Berns, including a key save at 7:00, the Bobcats capitalized on opportunities and scored four goals. D'Youville's attempts to clear the ball were met with mixed success, and offensive opportunities were limited by turnovers. The quarter concluded with FSU leading 4-0.

D'Youville had a promising start to the second quarter when Graham Sholett scored with an assist from Noah Suchyna at 6:26, capitalizing on an extra-man opportunity. However, FSU quickly responded, netting three consecutive goals to shift the momentum and take control of the period. Despite several attempts and defensive stops by Berns, D'Youville trailed 7-1 at the end of the quarter.

D'Youville showed resilience in the third quarter, initially narrowing the gap with an impactful offensive sequence. Obrigh Tallchief scored at 12:28, capitalizing on a faceoff violation by the Bobcats. Sholett added another goal shortly after at 11:20, further energizing the home team. Brady Ruffalo extended the momentum with a man-up goal at 9:28, assisted by Luciano Gonzalez, bringing D'Youville within reach. Despite the surge, FSU countered with two goals at 5:01 and 4:23, maintaining its lead. D'Youville faced challenges in the latter part of the quarter, including penalties and missed shots, preventing further scoring. FSU sealed its advantage with a final goal at the buzzer, concluding the quarter with an 11-4 lead.

The fourth quarter saw D'Youville making a notable effort to close the gap against FSU. Despite allowing an early pair of goals at 13:43 and 13:03, D'Youville responded with determination. Suchyna scored at 5:10 to bring some momentum back to the home team. Tallchief added another goal at 2:08, further narrowing the deficit. D'Youville continued to press, but despite several attempts, including a late shot by Tallchief saved by FSU, they could not overcome the Bobcats' lead. The game ended with FSU defeating D'Youville 14-6.

Sholett led the team with two goals on six shots, three of which were on target. Tallchief matched Sholett's scoring output with two goals, converting six of his eight shots on goal.
