WASHINGTON, D.C. — The D'Youville University men's basketball team (6-14, 6-6) secured a 76-67 victory over the University of the District of Columbia on Sunday afternoon.
The Saints opened the first half with a strategic approach, leveraging both inside and outside scoring to gain momentum.
Maxence Massadila knocked down three-pointer at 18:06 helped close an early gap, and by 12:48,
Trayton Trice hit both free throws to give DYU a narrow lead. Despite trailing by as much as 14 points, they managed to trim the deficit with a series of scoring efforts, including a late three-pointer by
LaShard Lowry. Jr. at 0:36. The half concluded with D'Youville leading the Firebirds 34–33.
DYU gained momentum early in the second half, sparked by
Elisha Warren making a layup at 18:57 with an assist from Massadila.
Sean Reynolds then fueled the offense with a three-pointer at 16:13, giving D'Youville a brief lead. Midway through the half,
Nathan Andrice jammed home the dunk at 15:42, assisted by Reynolds, extended the the Saints' advantage to five points.
D'Youville capitalized on turnovers and maintained control through efficient shooting. Massadila contributed significantly with a layup at 3:39, increasing their lead to 11 points. By the end of the half, D'Youville led the scoring with a 42-point output, concluding the game with a 76-67 victory over UDC.
Massadila scored 16 points, including three three-pointers, and recorded seven assists. Reynolds added eight points and distributed eight assists while collecting seven rebounds. Warren tallied 11 points with three three-pointers and grabbed seven rebounds. Andrice posted 13 points, blocked two shots, and secured seven rebounds.
Looking ahead, D'Youville will host St. Thomas Aquinas College on Friday, Feb. 13. The game is set to tip off at 7:45 p.m. in Buffalo, New York.
