BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville University men's basketball (6-15, 6-7 ECC) fell to St. Thomas Aquinas 63-56 on Friday night at the Saints Center Gym.
The Saints and St. Thomas Aquinas began the game with a closely contested first half that featured multiple lead changes and ties. DYU briefly took control with a three-pointer by
Maxence Massadila at 3:04, giving it a 29–25 lead. However, STAC responded with a tip-in in the final minute to edge ahead. The half concluded with D'Youville trailing by a narrow margin, 32–29.
DYU opened the second half with a quick steal by
Dawson Matsell, followed by a three-pointer from
Sean Reynolds at 19:16, tying the game at 32.
Elisha Warren contributed significantly with a layup and a steal within the first four minutes, helping D'Youville maintain a narrow lead. Despite the efforts, the Spartans responded with a series of scores, including a three-pointer at 1:46, to pull ahead. The game concluded with D'Youville trailing 63-56.
Massadila recorded 14 points and six assists, leading the team's offensive efforts. Warren scored 19 points, including four three-pointers, and added two blocks to anchor the defense. Matsell contributed with 10 points, three steals, and nine rebounds, showcasing strong defensive play.
Nathan Andrice added four points and collected seven rebounds, providing support on the boards.
In their next game, D'Youville will host Mercy University on Sunday, Feb. 15. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at their home venue in Buffalo, N.Y.
