Men's Lacrosse Grinds Out Win at Lake Erie

PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The D'Youville University men's lacrosse team (2-1) secured a narrow victory over Lake Erie College with an 8-7 final score on Saturday. 

The game began with LEC controlling the initial faceoff and quickly establishing a 2-0 lead. Despite the early deficit, D'Youville responded effectively midway through the quarter. Carsyn Kent scored with an assist from Raymond Cortes at 3:11, followed by a goal from Noah Suchyna at 2:00 to level the score. As the quarter concluded, the teams were tied at 2-2.

Graham Sholett ignited DYU's momentum in the second quarter with a goal at 9:59, leveling the score with Lake Erie. This was followed by Obrigh Tallchief finding the net at 5:11, assisted by Cortes, which gave the Saints the lead. Despite the Storm's attempts to respond, Casey Berns anchored the defense with multiple saves, preserving the advantage. The quarter concluded with D'Youville leading 4-3.

DYU began the third quarter with momentum, winning the initial faceoff and capitalizing with a goal by Luciano Gonzalez, assisted by Stefano Evan at 12:26. Despite this early boost, the Storm responded with two goals, leveling the score at 5-5 by the quarter's end. D'Youville's attempts to regain the lead were thwarted by LEC's defense, including several saves by the Storm. The quarter concluded with the teams tied at 5-5, leaving the outcome undecided as the game ended.

The Saints fourth quarter featured a strong offensive push that began with a goal from Noah Suchyna at 6:29, leveling the score. Kent then capitalized on an assist from Tallchief to give D'Youville the lead at 5:14. Despite the Storm equalizing at 1:08, D'Youville reclaimed the advantage through Tallchief's goal with just 27 seconds remaining. The quarter ended with D'Youville knocking off Lake Erie

Suchyna scored twice on four shots on goal, showcasing accuracy for the offense. Kent added two goals, converting five of his six shots on target. Tallchief made a decisive impact with two goals, one of which was the game-winner, and also contributed an assist. In goal, Berns recorded eight saves, allowing seven goals on 34 shots faced.

In their next game, D'Youville will host Malone University at Dobson Field in Buffalo, N.Y., on Wednesday, Feb. 25. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
