BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville men's lacrosse (3-1) secured a decisive 15-8 victory over Malone University on Wednesday at Dobson Field.
The game began with the Pioneers winning the opening faceoff, but a turnover caused by
Logan Schwartz shifted possession to the Saints.
Obrigh Tallchief capitalized on the opportunity, scoring the first goal at 12:44.
Graham Sholett extended the lead with a goal at 9:59, following a successful clear by D'Youville. The Pioneers responded with a goal at 7:52, tightening the contest.
As the quarter drew to a close, Tallchief scored again with just four seconds remaining, assisted by Sholett, solidifying DYU's advantage. The quarter ended with D'Youville leading 3-1.
The Saints seized control in the second quarter with a decisive offensive surge, beginning with
Jake Bush scoring at 13:35. This momentum continued as
Carsyn Kent and Tallchief each contributed goals, bringing the home team's lead to 6-1. The Pioneers responded with two goals, including a man-up score at 6:48, but D'Youville maintained its advantage with a late goal from
Brady Ruffalo at 4:09. Kent added another goal for DYU in the final minute, assisted by
Jack Devlin. Despite a late goal from the Pioneers late in the frame, the quarter ended with D'Youville leading 8-4.
DYU's Devlin scored at 8:05 in the third quarter with an assist from
Noah Suchyna, marking a pivotal moment as they maintained their lead over the Pioneers. Bush followed up with another goal at 2:59, further solidifying D'Youville's control of the game. Despite Malone's efforts to close the gap at 0:30, D'Youville ended the quarter ahead.
D'Youville capitalized on a strong fourth quarter to secure a decisive victory. Devlin opened the scoring with a goal at 11:15, assisted by
Stefano Evan, followed shortly by Tallchief's goal at 10:39 with an assist from
Teighen Fils-Aime.
Luciano Gonzalez added another at 7:55, and Sholett extended the lead with a goal at 6:04, assisted by Suchyna.
Brody Strong capped off D'Youville's scoring with a goal at 1:38. The Pioneers managed a single goal in the quarter at 9:42, but it was not enough to overcome D'Youville's offensive surge. The game concluded with D'Youville securing a 15-8 victory.
Tallchief led the offensive charge with four goals on seven shots, recording five shots on goal. Devlin contributed significantly with two goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist. Bush also tallied two goals, converting all of his shots on goal. In goal,
Casey Berns made 11 saves, allowing eight goals on 37 shots faced.
In their next game, D'Youville will host Holy Family University on Wednesday, March 4. The game is set for 4 p.m. at Dobson Field in Buffalo, New York.
