SPARKILL, N.Y. — D'Youville defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 2-0 on Saturday, scoring twice in the fourth quarter to secure a conference victory. The Saints controlled the game offensively, finishing with a 27-3 advantage in shots, 15 shots on goal and a 13-0 edge in penalty corners.
After three scoreless quarters, Jimena Loustalot broke the deadlock with a penalty-stroke goal at 45:54. She added her second goal just over two minutes later at 48:02, finishing a pass from Rowynn Pickering to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. Loustalot recorded six shots, including three on goal, while Pickering contributed an assist and four shots. Madisyn Grawl also finished with six shots and led D'Youville with five on goal.
The Saints generated consistent pressure throughout the first three quarters but were unable to find the back of the net. D'Youville recorded five shots in the opening quarter and added 11 in the second, but St. Thomas Aquinas goalkeeper Evelyn McEwen kept the game scoreless with 13 saves. The Saints continued their attack in the third quarter with eight shots and five penalty corners before breaking through in the final period.
Defensively, D'Youville limited St. Thomas Aquinas to just three shots and one shot on goal. Sarah Reifsnyder and Kaitlin Canova combined for the shutout, with Canova recording one save in 9:37 of relief as the Saints preserved the two-goal advantage.
With the win, D'Youville improved to 5-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while St. Thomas Aquinas fell to 0-10 overall and 0-4 in conference action.
