D'Youville Pushes Late but Falls to Roberts Wesleyan

BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville (5-8, 3-3) fell to Roberts Wesleyan (8-5, 6-0) 2-0 on Tuesday at Dobson Field. The Saints held the Redhawks scoreless through the first half before Roberts Wesleyan scored once in each of the final two quarters. D'Youville mounted a late offensive push, recording six of its seven shots in the fourth quarter.

Sarah Reifsnyder finished with five saves in 60 minutes in goal for the Saints, helping keep the game scoreless through the opening 30 minutes. Jimena Loustalot led D'Youville with three shots, including two on goal, while the Saints finished with seven shots and four shots on target.

D'Youville opened the game with a defensive stand in the first quarter, keeping Roberts Wesleyan off the scoreboard. Reifsnyder stopped a shot from Ashlyn Hermanofski at 12:34, and the Saints defense blocked another attempt later in the period. D'Youville also earned a penalty corner at 3:16, with Madisyn Grawl involved in the attacking opportunity, as the teams entered the second quarter tied 0-0.

Both defenses continued to limit scoring chances in the second quarter. Roberts Wesleyan's Makena Tooley had an attempt blocked at 28:39, and neither team found the back of the cage before halftime. The Saints carried the scoreless tie into the break after 30 minutes of play.

Roberts Wesleyan broke through in the third quarter when Avery Carinci scored at 38:28 off an assist from Jade Moncada to give the Redhawks a 1-0 lead. Reifsnyder recorded two saves in the period to keep D'Youville within reach, while Sofia Toyos put the Saints' lone shot of the quarter on goal at 43:34. D'Youville entered the final 15 minutes trailing by one.

The Redhawks extended their lead to 2-0 at 51:07, putting the Saints in a two-goal deficit. D'Youville responded by increasing its offensive pressure, generating six shots in the fourth quarter and creating additional opportunities through penalty corners. Ella Darvalics and Loustalot each had shots saved, while Grawl helped the Saints earn two penalty corners during the late push.

Despite the increased pressure in the closing minutes, D'Youville was unable to get on the scoreboard as Roberts Wesleyan held on for the 2-0 victory. Reifsnyder added two saves in the fourth quarter, bringing her total to five for the game.
