BUFFALO, N.Y. — The D'Youville University men's basketball team (2-11, 2-3 ECC) fell to the College of Staten Island with a final score of 77-70 on Friday night at Saints Center Gym.
Teh Saints opened the half with quick defensive play, as
Elisha Warren had a steal that led to a fast-break layup by
Maxence Massadila within the first 30 seconds. After a series of exchanges, DYU found momentum with a three-pointer from
Dawson Matsell at 17:45, assisted by
Sean Reynolds, which helped establish an early lead. Despite consistent pressure from CSI, D'Youville maintained their edge with a crucial dunk by
Marko Milivojevic at 1:54, assisted by Massadila, to push their score to 34. The half ended in a tie, 34–34, as both teams battled evenly in the opening 20 minutes.
Massadila opened the second half with a three-pointer for the Saints, briefly reclaiming the lead at 19:31. Despite a strong effort, including a notable three-pointer and assist by Warren, DYU faced challenges as the Dolphins capitalized on several scoring opportunities to maintain an edge. D'Youville's rebounds and Warren's late scoring efforts kept the game within reach, but CSI's consistent free-throw shooting helped them stay ahead. The half ended with the Dolphins leading 43-36, concluding with a 77-70 victory, as the final score reflects.
Warren led the scoring with 22 points, connecting on two three-pointers and converting 6-of-7 free throws while adding two steals. Matsell contributed significantly on the boards, collecting 11 rebounds and scoring 12 points with two successful three-point attempts. Massadila scored 12 points, making 5-of-8 field goals and assisting on three occasions. Milivojevic provided a defensive presence, recording five blocks and securing seven rebounds.
Up next for the Saints is a home game against the University of the District of Columbia. The two teams will face off on Sunday, Jan. 11, at 3 p.m.
