FROSTBURG, Md. — To start the 2026 portion of the season, the D'Youville University men's basketball team battled to the end but fell to Forstburg State University by a score of 89-87 Monday afternoon.
D'Youville opened the first half with a strong offensive performance, taking an early 5-0 lead on a layup by
Maxence Massadila and a three-pointer assisted by
Marko Milivojevic at 18:12. They continued to build momentum with
Sean Reynolds contributing a layup and jumper to stretch the lead to 9-4 by 17:09.
Elisha Warren had two consecutive three-pointers, one at 10:11 and another at 9:47, extended DYU's advantage to 25-17.
Despite the Bobcats closing the gap with a series of three-pointers, the Saints maintained composure.
Dawson Matsell scored layup with 54 seconds left ensured D'Youville held a narrow lead. The half concluded with DYU on top, leading 41-39.
Teh Saints opened the second half with a quick five-point surge, including a layup by Milivojevic and two free throws from Warren, to take a 47–39 lead at 18:54. Despite FSU's attempts to close the gap, D'Youville maintained their edge with Reynolds' timely three-pointer at 11:01, extending their lead to 69–59. However, a series of scores by the Bobcats shifted the momentum, allowing the home team to take an 83–77 lead with just over four minutes remaining.
Warren's late three-pointer at 2:07 brought D'Youville within five, and Reynolds tied the game at 87 with a fast-break three-pointer with 10 seconds left in regulation. However, the Bobcats regained the lead with two free throws in the final second, and D'Youville's last-second three-point attempt by Massadila missed, resulting in an 89–87 defeat for the visiting team.
Warren led the team with 30 points, making four three-pointers and converting 8-of-9 free throws, while also securing 10 rebounds. Reynolds added 20 points, including four three-pointers, and provided two assists. Massadila contributed with 11 points and four assists, finishing 5-of-8 from the field. Milivojevic posted two blocks and recorded seven rebounds, adding 10 points to his tally.
In their next game, the Saints will host the College of Staten Island on Friday, Jan. 9. Tip-off is set for 7:45 p.m.
