FLUSHING, N.Y. — The D'Youville University men's soccer team opened up conference action Saturday afternoon, taking ECC Preseason ranked No. 1 Queens College to a 0-0 draw.
The first half began with an early offensive effort from the Saints (1-3-2, 0-0-1 ECC) as
Luca Mansfield-Osborne registered a shot in just the opening minute. D'Youville maintained pressure throughout the half, highlighted by Mansfield-Osborne's attempt on target in the 21st minute, which was saved by Queens. Defensively,
Matthew Solorio kept the score level with a crucial save in the 20th minute, as D'Youville and Queens remained deadlocked at 0-0 heading into halftime.
The second half began with DYU's
Finn Savage taking an early shot in the 47th minute, but it sailed wide left.
Omar Daoudi later tested Queens' goalkeeper with a shot in the 67th minute, but it was saved once again. Despite multiple attempts from both teams, the half ended with a series of fouls and a yellow card issued to
Charlie Outram in the 74th minute, keeping the score level at 0-0.
Solorio recorded a shutout with two saves in 90 minutes, ensuring the Saints maintained a clean sheet. Daoudi contributed offensively with one shot on goal. Mansfield-Osborne led the team in attempts, registering three shots with one on target. Savage added to the team's attacking efforts with one shot.
The next challenge for DYU comes as they travel to Rochester, N.Y., to face Roberts Wesleyan University on September 27. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
