BUFFALO, N.Y. — The D'Youville University men's soccer team secured their first win of the season with a decisive 3-0 victory over California University of Pennsylvania at Dobson Field Wednesday afternoon.
DYU (1-3-1) opened the first half with a strong offensive presence, culminating in a goal by
Ethan Filbert at the 22:59 mark, assisted by
Omar Daoudi, to take a 1-0 lead. Filbert's goal was hist first collegiate goal in his young career. Just ten minutes later,
Dylan Danch doubled the advantage with a goal at 32:55, again assisted by Daoudi, showcasing a productive partnership. The Saints would take a 2-0 lead over the Vulcans into the break.
The second half commenced with DYU maintaining their lead and looking to extend it further.
Ethan Robinson's persistent efforts were instrumental, as he assisted
Luca Mansfield-Osborne's goal in the 66th minute, marking a pivotal moment in the match.
Matthew Solorio's solid goalkeeping, including key saves in the 54th and 72nd minutes, ensured the defense held firm, securing a decisive 3-0 victory over Cal.
Filbert scored the game-winning goal, converting his only shot on goal. Danch added a goal, finishing with one shot on goal out of three attempts. Daoudi contributed to the team's success with two assists, demonstrating his playmaking abilities. Solorio kept a clean sheet, recording four saves in the second half to secure the shutout.
The next challenge for the Saints takes them to Flushing, N.Y., where they will face Queens College on Sept. 20 to open up conference play. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
