COLCHESTER, Vt. — The D'Youville University men's soccer team (0-3-1) fell to Saint Michael's College Sunday afternoon by a score of 1-0.
The first half began with Saint Michael's gaining an early advantage, as Marshall Butler found the back of the net in the 9th minute to put the home team ahead. D'Youville's defense, led by goalkeeper
Matthew Solorio, responded by making key saves, including a crucial stop against Mikel Penin in the 36th minute. Despite
Shawn Richardson and
Luca Mansfield-Osborne's efforts to equalize, both of their shots were saved by Saint Michael's Garrett Smith, keeping the score 1-0 in favor of the hosts at halftime.
The second half, D'Youville's Solorio played a crucial role in goal, making key saves at the 58th and 76th minutes to keep the match within reach. Despite D'Youville's efforts to break through, including a shot on goal by
Omar Daoudi in the 78th minute, the half ended scoreless for the visitors with Saint Michael's holding on to their lead.
Solorio recorded five saves over 90 minutes, facing 12 shots and conceding one goal. Richardson posted one shot on goal, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Mansfield-Osborne also managed one shot on goal, adding pressure to the opposition's defense.
Looking ahead, the D'Youville team will host California University of Pennsylvania on September 17. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Dobson Field in Buffalo, N.Y.
