Saints Drop Two to Open the Cedarville Tournament

CEDARVILLE, Ohio — D'Youville women's volleyball dropped both of their matches at the Cedarville Tournament on Friday, falling in straight sets to UIndy and West Liberty at the Callan Athletic Center.

In the opener, UIndy (4-1, 0-0 GLVC) defeated D'Youville (1-3, 0-0 ECC) by scores of 25-21, 25-18, 25-8. The Greyhounds hit .326 as a team, led by Maddie Lynch and Paige Parlanti at the net.

The Saints opened the first set strong with a 4-1 lead, highlighted by a Madison Bradshaw service ace and a block from Giselle Ramirez and Isabelle Prentice. UIndy answered with a 7-1 run to take control, and although late aces from Alina Bertens Deckart brought D'Youville within 23-21, the Greyhounds closed it out with a Kaitlin Fasbender kill.

In the second set, UIndy quickly built a 9-2 lead on a service run from Macy Bruton and multiple Saints' attack errors. D'Youville battled back with kills from Cameron Ulinski and Prentice, but the Greyhounds' balanced attack proved too much, taking the set 25-18. The third frame was all UIndy, as they jumped out to a 4-0 start and never looked back, cruising to a 25-8 win with Lynch and Bruton putting away the final points.

Later in the day, West Liberty (3-4, 0-0 MEC) also swept D'Youville (1-4, 0-0 ECC), winning 25-20, 25-17, 25-23.

The Hilltoppers took advantage of early Saints' service errors in the first set, with Amira DuPree and Grace Hill leading the offense. D'Youville stayed within striking distance thanks to kills from Ulinski and Maddie Boglev, but West Liberty held on, sealing the set 25-20 with a Hill kill.

In the second frame, West Liberty jumped ahead behind Ashley Cudnik and Dakoda Keni. D'Youville saw contributions from Madeline O'Brien and Ulinski, but untimely attack errors allowed the Hilltoppers to maintain control and close out the set 25-17.

The third set was the tightest of the day, as the teams traded points to a 21-21 tie. D'Youville pulled even with a service ace from Michelina Estremera, but West Liberty capitalized late on Saints' miscues and a kill from Cudnik to finish the match, 25-23.
