Box Score 2 CEDARVILLE, Ohio — The D'Youville women's volleyball team came up short in its final two matches of the Cedarville Tournament on Saturday, falling in straight sets to Saginaw Valley and host Cedarville at the Callan Athletic Center.
Saginaw Valley (4-3) opened the day with a 25-14, 25-21, 25-18 victory. The Cardinals used strong serving and a balanced offense to keep the Saints (1-5) off rhythm, racking up aces while forcing errors.
D'Youville found bright spots in the loss, as Cameron Ulinski and Madeline O'Brien delivered kills to keep the Saints close in the second set. Anna Chechelnytska and Giselle Ramirez also chipped in at the net, while setter Lauren Scully helped fuel a late push. Angelyn Jaramillo added a run of service aces in the third set, but the Cardinals maintained control to finish the sweep.
In the afternoon matchup, Cedarville (4-2) topped the Saints 25-13, 25-20, 31-29, with serving again making the difference. The Yellow Jackets landed 11 aces in the match, including two late in the decisive third set.
The Saints struggled early as attack errors allowed Cedarville to build a cushion in the opening frame. D'Youville responded with more energy in the second set behind O'Brien's kills and steady play from Ramirez and Chechelnytska, pulling within striking distance before Cedarville closed it out.
The third set was the most competitive of the weekend for the Saints. Ramirez delivered a service ace to put D'Youville ahead 13-11, and O'Brien continued to pace the offense in a back-and-forth battle. The Saints fought off set points but couldn't hold off Cedarville's late serving surge, falling 31-29.
With the two losses, D'Youville moves to 1-6 on the season heading into the next stretch of nonconference play.
