BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Men's Volleyball team finished another weekend of NEC Conference play with a 3-1 loss to LIU.
D'Youville University 1 vs LIU 3 – (18-25, 19-25, 25-20, 13-25)
Set One
LIU took the early 5-1 lead in set one but a kill from
Tymek Brzoza (Tychy, Poland) along with two Sharks errors brought the Saints closer at 5-4. LIU extended their lead going on a 9-3 run to move ahead 14-7. Game play went back and forth with the Saints and Sharks alternating the point, but after a final kill from
Ethan Robinson (Scarborough, Ontario / Neil McNeil) the Sharks would take set one 25-18.
Set Two
It was the Saints who got ahead 5-4 in set two following two kills from Robinson and a LIU error, but the Sharks quickly came back scoring two to take the lead before jumping up 9-7. The Saints managed to tie it up at nine and then again at eleven following a kill from
Ian De Wilde (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint). LIU took control once again scoring the next three points as the Saints fought to stay in the match. Two different three-point runs helped keep the Sharks ahead and despite a final kill from
Spencer Boakye (Union, N.J. / Union), LIU would take set two 25-19.
Set Three
D'Youville found their footing in set three as they quickly took the 9-6 lead. After the Sharks got one back, the Saints pulled back ahead 12-7 following a kill from Brzoza, a Shark error, and an ace from De Wilde. D'Youville continued to climb as a service ace from
Randy Adorno (Bayamon, Puerto Rico / Winter Park) put the Saints ahead 20-14. LIU fought to come back but kills from Robinson and Boakye put the nail in the coffin as D'Youville took set three 25-20.
Set Four
LIU's offense hit their stride again to begin set four as they quickly jumped ahead 9-5, before
Randy Adorno could deliver a kill to get one back for the Saints. LIU managed another 13-4 run to move ahead 23-10. The Saints stayed alive off of two Sharks errors and a kill from Robinson, but the Sharks would earn the final kill to take set four 25-13 and the match 3-1.
