Handley and Parker Put Up Career High Stats as Saints Defeat Lake Erie 20-8

PAINESVILLE, OH. – The D'Youville Women's Lacrosse team earned a dominant 20-8 victory over the Lake Erie College Storm on Wednesday evening.

It was a strong showing for the Saints on Wednesday as Madison Handley (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) led the Saints offense with a career-best 12 goals and one assist. Madison Buck (Rochester, N.Y. / Churchville-Chili) followed behind with four goals and two assists while Sydney Gordon (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) recorded two goals and two assists.

On the defensive side, Lauren Parker (Syracuse, N.Y. / Jamesville-Dewitt) led the Saints with a career-best 17 draw controls while Madison McGinn (Owatonna, Minn. / Owatonna) recorded her first career win in goal.

How it Happened
The Saints got out to a fast start jumping ahead 6-0 in just under the first six minutes of play as Madison Handley, Madison Buck, and Sydney Gordon all combined for six goals. The Storm got one back, but Handley quickly scored two more goals to bring the score to 8-1. Lake Erie would add one more goal before the end of the first quarter to bring the score to 8-2.

The Saint started the second quarter with two goals from Buck and one from Handley to lead 11-2. The Storm managed a three-goal run to bring the score to 11-5 before the half ended.

Lake Erie carried their momentum into the third set scoring the first goal of the second half, but the Saints answered right back with Madison Handley scoring three in-a-row to extend the Saints lead to 14-6. Lauren Parker and Danielle Gephart (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) recorded their first goals of the game to bring the score to 16-6 as Lake Erie ended the Saints run with a goal right before the end of the third period.

Handley would score three more along with a goal from Gordon to close out the Saints offense for the game as they led 20-6. The Lake Erie offense continued to fight, scoring two more, but it was not enough to come back against the Saints dominant offense and D'Youville would let the time run out to give them the 20-8 win.
