RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Starting the first of a three-game road trip, the D'Youville University men's lacrosse team's second half surge fell short against Felician University, falling by a score of 9-8 Saturday afternoon.
The Saints (3-4) were led by
Obrigh Tallchief (Irving, N.Y./Lake Shore) with three points (1 goal, 2 assists) with
Stefano Evan (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) and
Nick Sholett (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) each netted a pair of goals. Three other Saints were able to find the back of the net one time each.
Cameron Fogarty (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) led the way in groundballs with five while
Hayden Goldthorp (Ore-Medonte, Ontario/St. Joes) picked up three.
Johnny Lafleur (Whitby, Ontario/Father Leo J. Austin) and Sholett led the team in caused turnovers with two apiece.
Evan got the scoring going on the day within the first minute of action before the Golden Falcons scored three-straight to make it 3-1.
Christian Wagner (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville East) halted the run with a goal with 3:18 left in the first. Felician was able to tack on one more to take a 4-2 lead after one quarter of action.
The start the second quarter, Felician scored but back-to-back goals by DYU made it a 5-4 game with 9:55 left before the break.
Carsyn Kent (Whitby, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson Secondary) score the first goal off the dish from Tallchief and Sholett scored his first of the day. The Golden Falcons answered with a pair of goals of their own as they took a 7-4 lead into halftime.
Felician continued the scoring the start the second half, scoring two more goals. D'Youville quickly flipped the script, scoring a pair of goals to close out the third quarter to make it 9-6. Evan and Tallchief added to their point totals.
In the fourth, the Saints defense stood strong, not allowing a goal in the frame. Sholett scored his second goal of the game at the 13:21 mark followed by a goal from
Brady Ruffalo (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) from Tallchief with 10:51 left in the game. DYU had several opportunities to get the game-tying goal late in the frame but came up short.
Casey Berns (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) went the distance in net, making nine saves.
The Saints will be back in action next Wednesday, March 12th, as they travel to Holy Family University, for a 6 p.m. gametime.
