Men’s Volleyball Suffers 3-1 Loss on the Road to Merrimack College

BOSTON, MASS. – The D'Youville University Men's Volleyball team fell 3-1 to a tough opponent in Merrimack College on the road Friday night.

Set One
Merrimack got on top first but kills from Randy Adorno (Bayamon, Puerto Rico / Winter Park) and Ian De Wilde (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) tied the game at three. The Saints capitalized on two Merrimack errors to take the first lead of the game, but the Warriors fought back till they took the 10-9 lead. From there the Warriors kept control of the set. A kill from Jacob Malak (Wales, Wisc. / Kettle Moraine) and a service ace from Skyler Tutor (St. Cloud, FL / St. Cloud) threatened the Warriors as it brought the Saints within one at 19-18, but Merrimack managed to hang on taking set one 25-21.

Set Two
Merrimack remained in control as the second set began as the Warriors jumped out to a strong 15-9 lead. The Saints got some points back off Warriors errors, but still trailed 18-12. A kill from Ian De Wilde along with more errors from the Warriors brought the Saints closer as they trailed 20-17, but the Warriors offense finished strong, and the Warriors took set two 25-19.

Set Three
The Warriors again got on top first in set three, but three Merrimack errors in-a-row paved the way for the Saints to take the 7-6 lead. The Saints extended their lead to 14-11 following kills from Ian De Wilde, Spencer Boakye (Union, NJ / Union), and Tymek Brzoza (Tychy, Poland). Merrimack fought their way back to tie the game at 14 and gameplay continued as the teams fought for the lead. The set saw its last tie at 23 and two more Merrimack errors gave the Saints the 25-23 win in set three.

Set Four
As the match continued, Merrimack started set four with a close 11-8 lead. A kill from Randy Adorno followed by two Warriors errors tied the game at 11. Merrimack took back the advantage and began to climb to 25. The Saints got within two at 21-19 following a service ace from Ethan Robinson (Toronto, Canada), but it was not enough to stop the Warriors as they took set four 25-20 and the match 3-1.
