Volleyball Heads Home After Falling 3-0 to Saint Francis

LORETTO, PA. – The D'Youville University Men's Volleyball team closed out their first NEC Conference weekend with a 3-0 loss to Saint Francis University on Saturday afternoon.

Set One
D'Youville got on top first in set one jumping up 5-3 following kills from Ian De Wilde (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) and Jacob Malak (Wales, Wisc. / Kettle Moraine). Saint Francis fought back to tie the game at five, but the Saints offense picked back up as they climbed to a 16-11 lead following another kill from De Wilde. D'Youville continued to climb as they led 23-21 following a Saint Francis error, but the Red Flash still had some fight in them as they tied the game at 23 and then earned the next point to reach game point. Ty Parker (Syracuse, N.Y. / Jamesville-Dewitt) recorded the kill to retie the game and one Saint Francis retook the lead, Ethan Robinson (Toronto, Canada) delivered the kill that retied the game at 25. Saint Francis would score three in-a-row to take the comeback 28-26 win in set one.

Set Two
Saint Francis got the jump in set two getting ahead 7-5, but kills from Randy Adorno (Bayamon, Puerto Rico / Winter Park) and Ty Parker tied the game at eight. Parker delivered the next service ace followed by a kill from Tymek Brzoza (Tychy, Poland) and a Red Flash error to give the Saints the 11-8 lead. D'Youville continued to climb until Saint Francis tied the game at 13. Gameplay went back and forth from there until the score tied at 22 after a Red Flash service error. Saint Francis recorded the next three points to take the third set 25-22.

Set Three
Saint Francis carried their momentum into set three jumping ahead 12-6. An error from Saint Francis along with a service ace from Ethan Robinson to bring the score to 12-8. Saint Francis continued to climb going on a 9-1 run to bring the score to 21-9. Jacob Malak recorded a kill for the Saints to get them to ten at 21-10, but Saint Francis quickly got the next point to keep their lead.  The Saints earned one more point off a Saint Francis error, but the Red Flash would go on to take set three 25-11 and the match 3-0.

The Saints stay on the road for a matchup on Saturday against the New Jersey institute of Technology at 7:00 PM in Newark, new Jersey followed by a Sunday match up against Dominican University at 12:00 PM.
