D’Youville Downed by Saint Francis in NEC Opener

LORETTO, PA. – The D'Youville University Men's Volleyball team began NEC Conference play 0-1 after falling to Saint Francis University 3-0 on Friday night.

Set One
D'Youville got out to a fast start in set one jumping up 5-3 following a kill from Ty Parker (Syracuse, N.Y. / Jamesville-Dewitt). After Saint Francis got one back, the Saints added two more with another kill from Parker and one from Ian De Wilde (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint). Saint Francis worked to come back, but three kills from De Wilde gave D'Youville the 11-7 advantage. As the Saints continued to climb, Saint Francis managed to tie the game at 15 and then went on to take the 17-16 lead. From, there both teams fought back and forth for the advantage until Saint Francis took the final two points of the set to win 29-27.

Set Two
D'Youville again gained the early advantage in set two jumping up 5-4 after Randy Adorno (Bayamon, Puerto Rico / Winter Park) and Tymek Brzoza (Tychy, Poland) delivered back-to-back kills. Saint Francis delivered four points in-a-row to take the lead, but D'Youville went on a four-point run of their own all off Saint Francis errors to keep control. Saint Francis again took control at 12-9 and would hold it for the remainder of the set. The Saints offense fought to stay in the set, but despite kills from Jacob Malak (Wales, Wisc. / Kettle Moraine), Skyler Tutor (St. Cloud, FL / St. Cloud), and Ty Parker, Saint Francis would go on to win set two 25-20.

Set Three
D'Youville and Saint Francis went back-and-forth with the lead to start set three, but a six-point run from Saint Francis pushed them ahead to an 11-6 lead. The Saints fought to keep the match alive, but despite final kills from Skyler Tutor and Tymek Brzoza, Saint Francis would take the third set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
