BUFFALO, N.Y. – Closing out their three-game homestand Sunday afternoon, the D'Youville University men's lacrosse team fell to Assumption University by a score of 17-1.
 
The Saints (3-3) had their lone goal of the game come from Luciano Gonzalez (Colquitlam, British Columbia) off the assist from Stefano Evan (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) in the second quarter of action. Obright Tallchief (Irving, N.Y./Lake Shore) had the most opportunities to get one to fall as four of his five shots game on goal but was turned away.
 
Christian Cliff (Toronto, Ontario) played a solid game on the defensive end, grabbing seven groundballs while tying a single game record in caused turnover with six. Hayden Goldthorp (Ore-Medonte, Ontario) also had put together a good game, grabbing four groundballs while causing three turnovers.
 
After trailing by five at the end of the first quarter, the Saints struck first in the second quarter as Gonzalez scored the man-up goal at the 7:54 mark off the dish from Evan. DYU played solid defense in the quarter, only allowing two Greyhound goals as they trailed 7-1 going into the break.
 
Casey Berns (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) earned the loss in net, making seven saves in 47 minutes of action. William Nichols (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) went the rest of the way, making three saves.
 
The Saints will now start a three-game road trip as they travel to Felician University this Saturday, March 8th, for a 12 p.m. game.
