Women's Lacrosse Start Road Trip With Loss to No. 18 Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – Continuing their road trip to start the season, the D'Youville University women's lacrosse team fell to No. 18 Bentley University by a score of 19-6 Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Saints (0-2) were led by Madison Handley (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) with two goals while Danielle Gephart (Eden, N.Y./Eden) with two points (1 goal, 1 assist). BreeLynn LaLonde (Theresa, N.Y./Indian River) led the team on the defensive end, grabbing two groundballs and causing two turnovers.
 
The Falcons came out of the gate strong, scoring 10 unanswered in the first quarter of play. Bentley continued to show their strong offense, scoring the first two in the second quarter of play. DYU was able to halt the run as Madison Buck (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville Chili) found the back of the net. D'Youville tacked on one more before the halftime break as Gephart found Handley on the woman-up goal to make it 12-2 after a half of play.
 
To start the second half, the Saints kept the scoring going as Emily Fischer (Grand Island, N.Y./Mount St. Mary Academy) got in the scoring column 50 seconds into the quarter to make it 12-3. Bentley responded with a pair of goals to help push their lead to 14-3. DYU got going offensively with back-to-back goals from Jillian Bernas (Cheektowaga, N.Y./St. Mary's) and Gephart to help cut the deficit to nine with 4:29 left in the frame. The Falcons made it a 10-goal differential to close out the third.
 
In the final frame of regulation, the Saints were saw many opportunities but were able to capitalize on one as Handley found the back of the net for her second goal.
 
Brinn Stworzydlak (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) went the distance in net, making nine saves.
 
The Saints will be back in action on Thursday, March 13th, as they continue their New England road trip when they play at American International College for a 1 p.m. start.
