SPARKILL, N.Y. – Riding on a four-game winning streak, the D'Youville University men's basketball team fell to St. Thomas Aquinas College by a score of 73-58.
The Saints (6-15, 4-8 ECC) were led by
Justin Moore (Oxford, Ala./Oxford) with 14 points with
Elisha Warren (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) adding 13 points.
TI Scruggs (Huntsville, Ala./Hazel Green) led the team in rebounds, grabbing seven boards.
STAC jumped out to an early 7-2 lead before DYU went on an 11-0 run to take a six-point lead. Moore led the charge, scoring five points with
Kevin Thompson (Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop Timon-St. Jude) adding four free throws during the span. The Saints were able to fend off the Spartans for a majority of the first half before they gained the lead again with 3:48 left to play in the half and took a 32-27 lead into the break.
Coming out of the half, D'Youville was able to keep the game within two-possessions for the first five minutes. STAC later saw their lead grow to as many as 16 points with just over 13 minutes left in regulation. The Saints did cut the lead to eight on several occasions but could not get any closer.
DYU went 22-for-59 (37.3 percent) from the floor while STAC went 27-for-67 (40.0 percent) from the field. The Spartans held the advantage on the glass, grabbing 53 rebounds to the Saints' 31.
D'Youville will be back in action this Friday, February 14th, as they host Queens College at 7:45 p.m.
