BUFFALO, N.Y. – Returning to the Palace on Porter, the D'Youville University men's basketball team pulled out an 85-81 win over Queens College Friday evening.
The Saints (7-15, 5-8 ECC) were led by
Justin Moore (Oxford, Ala./Oxford) with 21 points with
Elisha Warren (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) adding 17 points.
Jaylin Simmons (Queens, N.Y./Benjamin Cardozo) and
Noah Hutchins (Buffalo, N.Y./IMG Academy) each helped in the effort, scoring 10 points each.
TI Scruggs (Huntsville, Ala./Hazel Green) led the team on the glass, grabbing 11 rebounds while dishing out six assists.
After a back-and-forth first five minutes of the game, the Saints went scorched earth by going on a 15-0 run to help gain a 21-8 lead. Warren led the efforts, scoring eight points including a pair of threes. The Knights were able to cut it back to a two-possession lead, but DYU hit three-straight three-pointers to regain a 30-17 lead. Queens was able to cut the deficit to four points but D'Youville responded to take a 45-35 lead into the break.
DYU was able to keep a sizeable lead in the first five minutes of the second half until the Knights went on a 7-0 to trail 53-51 with 13:53 left in regulation. Queens would continue to battle, cutting the lead four points on several occasions before the Saints would push the lead to double-digits in response. Down the stretch, Queens cut the deficit to one point but D'Youville was able to hold off the Knights as Moore slammed it home for the exclamation point.
DYU went 31-for-73 (42.5 percent) from the field with Queens going 27-for-64 (42.2 percent) from the floor. The Knights had the slight edge on the glass, grabbing 46 rebounds to the Saints' 43 rebounds.
D'Youville will be back in action on Sunday, February 16th, as they host Molloy University at 3 p.m.
