Saints Continue Winning Ways As They Tame The Lions

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Closing out the weekend, the D'Youville University men's basketball team came away with a 93-87 win over Molloy University Sunday afternoon.
 
The Saints (8-15, 5-8 ECC) were led by Justin Moore (Oxford, Ala./Oxford) with 20 points while Renard Fontes-Jules (Brockton, Mass./Olympus Sports Academy) and Elisha Warren (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) each had 14 points. Fontes-Jules and Noah Hutchins (Buffalo, N.Y./IMG Academy) led the way with seven rebounds each.
 
With each teams figuring each other out in the early goings of the game, the Saints went on an 11-2 run to lead 20-13 with 13:02 left in the first half. Kevin Thompson (Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop Timon-St. Jude) hit a pair of threes to go along an and-one conversion from Hutchins to fuel the run. Soon after, DYU saw a 10-point lead with a basket in the lane from Fontes-Jules followed by a three-pointer. D'Youville had their biggest lead of the half, up 31-19, with a pair of free throws from Hutchins and Thompson. The Lions did fight back before the half, cutting the lead five points.
 
Molloy carried the momentum to begin the second half, cutting the lead to two points on several occasions. The Saints quickly responded, going on a 7-0 run to lead 60-49 with 13:19 left in regulation. Warren started the run with a three-pointer with Fontes-Jules adding a pair of buckets. DYU was able to maintain a double-digit lead over the next three minutes of game play. The Lions did not quit though, making it an 84-83 game with 1:53 left. DYU helped put the game out of reach with five points from Moore in the closing minute to help salt the game away.
 
DYU went 30-for-70 (42.9 percent) from the field with Molloy going 33-for-67 (49.3 percent) from the floor. The Saints held the slight advantage on the glass, grabbing 41 rebounds to the Lions' 37 rebounds.
 
The Saints will be back home for their final regular season game at the Saints Center against #2/#3 Daemen University at 3 p.m.
