BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Men's Volleyball team suffered a tough 3-1 loss to Rockhurst University on Saturday afternoon.
D'Youville University 1 vs Rockhurst University 3 – (20-25, 21-25, 25-21,)
Set One
As match play began in the first set. D'Youville saw their first lead of the day at 7-6 following a service ace from
Tymek Brzoza (Tychy, Poland / NLO Jastrzebski Wegiel). The Rockhurst Hawks fought back till they took control leading 10-9. From there, the Hawks took control of the set as the Saints worked to stay in the game.
Ian De Wilde (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) delivered the final kill for the Saints before Rockhurst took the last two points to win the first set 25-20.
Set Two
The Hawks carried their momentum into set two but a dominant kill from
Spencer Boakye (Union, N.J. / Union) tied the game at five. Rockhurst answered with three straight points to retake the lead. The Saints fought to stay close and kept the Hawks within two at 14-12, but another three-point run from Rockhurst pushed them ahead 17-12. D'Youville continued to fight, but the Hawks would take set two 25-21.
Set Three
The Saints found their footing in the third set as kills from
Ty Parker (Syracuse, N.Y. / Jamesville-Dewitt), Ethan Robinson (Toronto, Canada), and
Skyler Tutor (St. Cloud, FL / St. Cloud) helped propel the Saints to a 8-6 lead. D'Youville continued to charge ahead, playing their best volleyball of the day as the Hawks put together a three-point run to stay in the game and trail 18-20.
Ethan Robinson delivered back-to-back kills for DYU to put them ahead 23-19 and
Spencer Boakye delivered the two kills to put the Saints over the top as they took set three 25-21.
Set Four
The Saints quickly found themselves ahead in set four, leading 6-4 following an ace from
Skyler Tutor. Rockhurst immediately answer going on a 6-1 run to take the lead 10-7. As gameplay continued, the Saints found themselves within two at 14-12 after a kill from
Skyler Tutor and a service ace from
Ty Parker. However, the Hawks put their foot on the gas scoring five in-a-row to extend their lead to 19-12.
Ian De Wilde and
Ethan Robinson delivered a kill each for the Saints before the Hawks would score four in-a-row to take the fourth set 25-16 and the match 3-1.
