Saints Earn Ranked Win, Battle Through Close Contests in Tri-Dual

ADRIAN, Mich. — The D'Youville women's wrestling team delivered one of its strongest performances of the season Saturday, earning a statement victory over No. 18/15 Tiffin and competing tightly in losses to Schreiner and Adrian during a tri-dual hosted by Adrian College. The Saints finished 1–2 on the day, highlighted by several key wins and hard-fought matches across the lineup.

D'Youville opened the event by securing a marquee win against No. 18/15 Tiffin, fueled by late scoring and poise in close bouts. At 117 lbs, Annika Lopez sparked the lineup with a 5–4 decision, capitalizing on a timely score to edge out a tight match. Lina Lingo followed with a strong 6–4 decision at 138 lbs, maintaining control in key moments. At 145 lbs, Gennaveve Matt added another one-point victory, earning a 5–4 win that helped swing momentum toward the Saints. Erin Martin closed out D'Youville's scoring with a disciplined 2–0 decision at 180 lbs, sealing the dual. Although Malaya Foster fell by technical fall at 160 lbs, her early pressure reflected the team's steady energy in the upset win.

The Saints fell 29–15 to Schreiner in their second matchup, but several D'Youville wrestlers turned in notable performances and close efforts. Alyssa Sedillo opened the dual with a dramatic criteria win at 5–5 at 103 lbs, securing the final scoring sequence needed for the victory. Natalia Morales added a 9–3 decision at 117 lbs, controlling the match from start to finish. The Saints' biggest win came from Alessandra Elliott, who dominated her 145 lbs bout with a 16–3 technical fall. D'Youville also pushed Schreiner in multiple tight losses: Alexis Brua dropped a 5–2 decision at 124 lbs, Madison Wellen came up just short in a 6–5 battle at 131 lbs, and Olivia Lapoint remained active in an 8–2 match at 138 lbs. At 160 lbs, Emma Beckles built a commanding 12–4 lead before a late fall shifted the result, capping off a competitive dual despite the final team score.

D'Youville closed the tri-dual with a 27–20 loss to Adrian, but the Saints delivered several of their most explosive wins of the day. Sedillo recorded her second dominant victory, producing a 10–0 technical fall in just 1:10 at 103 lbs. Three straight first-period pins followed: Wellen at 131 lbs, Angelica Steffy at 138 lbs, and Elliott at 145 lbs, giving the Saints a burst of momentum. Beckles added a controlled 6–4 decision at 160 lbs, showing strong late-match composure. Mackenzie LaForest closed the event with a high-paced 13–8 decision at 207 lbs, capping a solid day for the Saints' upperweights. Though the dual slipped away, D'Youville's lineup showed depth, aggressiveness and scoring potential in multiple spots.

D'Youville leaves Adrian with a signature win over a ranked opponent, several breakout performances and continued signs of progress as the season moves forward.
