SPARKILL, N.Y. — D'Youville fell to American International College, 72-46, at Aquinas Hall. D'Youville managed to keep the game close early, trailing by only one point after the first quarter, but was overtaken by a 30-point second quarter from the Yellowjackets, which proved decisive. D'Youville recorded 41 rebounds and 11 assists, but 17 turnovers led to 26 points for the Yellowjackets, sealing the result.
The game began with D'Youville taking an early lead, thanks to
Morgan Giancaterino's (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Sacred Heart Academy) jumper at 9:39. Despite a strong defensive effort, including
Ava Pearson's (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie) steal at 6:34, D'Youville trailed for much of the quarter.
Alyssa Neumann's (Silverdale, Wash. / Central Kitsap) layup with 24 seconds left brought D'Youville within one point. At the end of the first quarter, D'Youville was narrowly behind the Yellowjackets, 12-11.
D'Youville faced challenges defensively as the Yellowjackets launched a dominant offensive effort, making 13 of their 20 field goal attempts. D'Youville's attempts to counter were hindered by turnovers, committing six in the quarter, which limited their scoring opportunities. Despite a strong effort from Neumann, who contributed with a critical jumper midway through the quarter, D'Youville could not maintain momentum. The Yellowjackets' capitalized on these turnovers, extending their team's lead significantly. The quarter concluded with D'Youville trailing 39–19.
D'Youville narrowed the gap in the third quarter with a notable performance by
Molly O'Toole (Rochester, N.Y. / Aquinas Institute), who hit consecutive three-pointers at 6:22 and 5:56, reducing the deficit. Giancaterino and
Aliviya Vallone Russell (Buffalo, N.Y. / Cardinal O'Hara) each contributed with assists, helping maintain offensive momentum. Despite D'Youville's efforts, including Vallone Russell's late three-pointer at 1:00, the Yellowjackets managed to edge the quarter 15–13.
D'Youville managed to control the fourth quarter despite a push from the Yellowjackets. Neumann's layup at 9:05 and subsequent three-pointer at 5:13 helped solidify their position. O'Toole contributed with two free throws at 7:31, and
Kendall Parker added a late jumper at 1:15. Although the Yellowjackets narrowed the gap with a couple of key three-pointers, D'Youville's defense held firm,but the Yellowjackets would hold on to take the game 72-46.
Neumann scored 15 points, converting 7 of 11 field goal attempts, and added five rebounds. O'Toole collected eight points and 10 rebounds, including four on the offensive end. Vallone Russell contributed five points and dished out three assists while grabbing two rebounds. Giancaterino added eight points, recorded five rebounds, and blocked one shot.
