Men's Basketball Edged-Out by Wilmington in Overtime Thriller

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In day two of the ECC/CACC Tip-Off Challenge, the D'Youville University men's basketball team was edged out by Wilmington University by the score of 84-83 in overtime.

The Saints started with strong offensive momentum, highlighted by a Sean Reynolds jumper and a Nathan Andrice three-pointer, establishing an early eight-point lead at 17:18. Despite this advantage, the Wildcats countered, tying the game multiple times and matching D'Youville's scoring efforts with a series of layups and free throws.

Elisha Warren played a pivotal role for DYU, contributing a fast-break layup and a crucial three-pointer at 6:14 to regain the lead briefly. The teams exchanged leads throughout the half, maintaining close scoring. As the half concluded, Justin Moore assisted Warren in tying the game with a layup at 0:46, and the first half ended in a 38–38 tie.

D'Youville opened the second half with a strong performance, securing a quick lead with a three-pointer by Reynolds at 19:09 assisted by Warren. Despite the Wildcats rallying back to tie the game multiple times, D'Youville showcased resilience. Andrice's defensive efforts, including a block in the early moments, highlighted their tenacity. With only four seconds left, Warren made two crucial free throws to level the score at 75, ensuring a dramatic conclusion to the half. Regulation ended with a 75–75 draw, as the Wildcats failed to convert a last-second attempt.

The Saints experienced a pivotal moment when Warren connected on a three-pointer at 3:03, assisted by Andrice, giving them a 79–75 lead. Their advantage extended to six points after Reynolds added another three-pointer at 2:23, also assisted by Warren. Despite these efforts, the Wildcats fought back in the final seconds, with Akeem Taylor sinking crucial free throws to edge ahead. The game concluded with the Wildcats narrowly defeating D'Youville, 84–83 in overtime.

Warren scored 29 points and collected eight rebounds, making 10-of-17 shots including five three-pointers. Reynolds added 14 points and recorded six assists while converting four three-pointers. Moore posted 17 points and secured seven rebounds, along with six assists. Andrice contributed with 12 rebounds and four blocks, adding a defensive presence on the floor.

In their next game, the Saints will be traveling to face Lake Erie College on Wednesday, Nov. 19. The matchup is set for 7:30 p.m. in Painesville, Ohio.
