WASHINGTON, D.C. — On the first day of the ECC/CACC Tip-Off Challenge, the D'Youville University men's basketball team fell to Goldey-Beacom College by the score of 90-68 Friday evening.
The game commenced with D'Youville managing to keep pace early, tying the score at 2-2 after a
Nathan Andrice layup at 18:49. However, GBC quickly established control with a series of successful three-pointers and layups, pulling ahead to a 22-point lead by 6:09.
In the first half, the Saints found success at the free-throw line, converting 16-of-20 attempts, which helped mitigate the deficit.
Justin Moore contributed significantly, scoring multiple free throws and a late layup. The first half concluded with the Lightning leading 42-31.
DYU found themselves in a challenging position during the second half as GBC extended their lead to 28 points with 5:13 remaining. Despite the deficit,
Trayton Trice spearheaded a response, contributing 13 points and securing multiple rebounds, which helped trim the margin.
Elisha Warren added to the effort with a layup and a free throw, demonstrating resilience in the closing minutes. However, D'Youville's push was to late to overcome the Lightning's advantage, and the game concluded with a 90–68 victory for Goldey-Beacom.
Trice led the team with 20 points, converting 6-of-8 field goals and making all eight free throw attempts. Moore added 17 points and excelled at the line, making 11-of-14 free throws, while also securing two steals. Andrice was a force on the boards, collecting 10 rebounds and adding 11 points with two blocks.
Dawson Matsell contributed defensively with two steals and added four points.
The team's next game will take place against Wilmington University on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
