Field Hockey Grabs First Program Win in Season Opener over STAC

SPARKILL, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Field Hockey Team opened their first season in program history with a 6-4 win over St. Thomas Aquinas on Sunday.
The Saints offense came out of the gate strong on Sunday. Erica Prible (Holland, N.Y. / Holland), Madisyn Grawl (Burlington, NJ / Burlington), and Kelsey Robertson (Holland, N.Y. / Holland) all had a hand in combining for six goals to give the Saints their first win. Sophomore, Hayden Herbold (East Aurora, N.Y. / Iroquois) played majority of the game in goal recording nine saves.

The Spartans took control of the game scoring in the first minute. The Saints got even in the eighth minute of the game after Kelsey Robertson scored the first goal in program history off a penalty corner. The Saints got another chance in the thirteenth minute of the game and took the 2-1 lead after Erica Prible tabbed her first career goal.

The Spartans tied it up early in the second quarter, but the Saints were not deterred. Madisyn Grawl came up big with a goal to retake the lead and Kelsey Robertson scored her second goal of the day shortly after to put the Saints up 4-2. The Spartans would get one goal back in the final minutes of the second quarter to put the score at 4-3 in the Saints favor.

DYU came back strong after halftime with Robertson scoring her third goal and Grawl scoring her second within ten minutes of play resuming. The Spartans put their fourth goal on the board towards the end of the third quarter. The Saints defense held off the Spartans in the fourth quarter and D'Youville earned their 6-4 win over the Spartans to begin their inaugural season.
